PALE MANACLE, combining the gloss and sound of today’s contemporary styles and the deeply embedded roots of the warm, rich sound of vintage 60’s and 70’s instrumentation, has developed a sound and feel that is uniquely their own.

The four piece band, formed in mid 1998 in Cincinnati, OH, (as When Elizabeth), consists of Chase Willett on vocals, guitar and trumpet; Nick Gulacsy on piano, organ, accordion, percussion and vox, Jon Kretzer on drums and percussion; and Brian Vitellaro on bass, guitar and vox. Chase Willett and Nick Gulacsy are the key songwriters of Pale Manacle with newly added bassist Brian Vitellaro making contributions. All of the members have been performing live from a very early age and play with the seasoning you’d expect from a group with such seasoning.

Pale Manacle quickly established themselves as an extremely popular live act while based in Cincinnati, playing clubs and festivals regionally from Cleveland to Nashville. Never underestimating the power of the live show, Pale Manacle has worked diligently to establish an outstanding stage show by performing with energy, dynamics and well rehearsed, tight playing.

“This is definitely not a band destined to stay on the club level for long” writes music critic Mike Breen of City Beat Magazine. “The big sound, above average stage performance and knack for manipulating the audience will capture your attention throughout their powerful set”. In addition to the views of the music beat writers, the feedback from fans and other music groups shows their popular style is a marketable, in-demand sound.

The sound, beginning with the soulful power of Chase Willett’s vocals and his rich, full guitar tones, is seamlessly blended with the classic piano and organ styles of Nick Gulacsy, the smooth, warm bass tones of Brian Vitellaro and the articulate drumming of Jon Kretzer, who is nothing short of a timing machine.

“Jon toured with a popular Nashville country act for a while, opening for over 20 major groups, including Faith Hill, Alan Jackson and others, so you know the boy has excellent timing, ”proclaims Willett....”and Nick has played accordion all over the world, appearing as a young child on the Lawrence Welk Show and doing a short stint playing accordion in Weird Al’s band. These dudes can flat out play”.

“We like to have a full, rich sound as well as mix it up instrumentally” adds Willett, “ to keep the audience interested and involved. We all play multiple instruments quite well and use them live as well as in the studio. You haven’t heard anything until you hear Nick break it down on the accordion ...throw in a little trumpet and you really get an audiences attention."
